The Allegany County Board of Education requested a waiver for the two instructional days missed (May 14 and May 15) for the flash flood, which was later declared a State of Emergency. The Maryland State Board of Education (MSDE) has the authority to adjust the school calendar by granting such waivers if normal school attendance is prevented due to natural disasters, civil disasters, or severe weather conditions.
On May 29, 2025, during the State Board Meeting, MSDE approved the waiver of the two instructional days. This means that no additional days will be added to the ACPS school calendar and the school year will end on June 10, 2025, as planned.
