ACPS Presents First State of the Schools Address

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Allegany County Public Schools (ACPS) Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano delivered the district’s first State of the Schools address Thursday at the Cumberland Country Club, presented in partnership with the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Martirano shared the ACPS 2025–2026 Annual Report with community leaders, reviewing where the district was last year, where it is now, and where it is headed.

The address highlighted four district priorities: daily school attendance, high-quality educators, strong partnerships with colleges, and safe, efficient schools.  Dr. Martirano thanked parents for their role in student success and invited them to continue partnering with ACPS to make every school day count.

“It is the honor of my professional career to return to Allegany County to lead the school district that so profoundly impacted my own life. I treasure this opportunity to give back while lifting up our future generation.  The State of the Allegany County Public Schools is strong, and the best days are in front of us!”  – Dr. Michael Martirano

Dr. Martirano also celebrated students, staff, and community members who have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact on ACPS.

As ACPS looks to the year ahead, the district remains focused on one shared goal: building a school system where every student climbs to higher altitudes.
