ACPS Focus on the Future Seeks Employers

CUMBERLAND, Md. – September 21, 2026 – Allegany County Public Schools (ACPS) is recruiting local employers for its Focus on the Future event in November. Employers will have the chance to do something incredible: help eighth graders understand how doing well in school can help them prepare for local careers. 

The Focus on the Future event is held in the Allegany County Fairgrounds’ Multipurpose Building, with employers needed from 9-11:30 a.m. on November 17-18.

The goal is to help students get ready for the job market and encourage them to stay and work in Allegany County after graduation, which helps grow the local economy.

Students will attend presentations covering different Maryland career clusters, which are groups of related jobs that show the full range of career paths available. These include:

• Healthcare & Human Services
• Construction
• Public Service & Safety
• Supply Chain & Transportation
• Agriculture
• Arts, Entertainment & Design
• Energy & Natural Resources
• Hospitality, Events & Tourism
• Digital Technology
• Financial Services
• Marketing & Sales
• Education
• Management & Entrepreneurship
