New Teacher Academy
Every new teacher in our district is enrolled in the New Teacher Academy, a three-year program that gives them a dedicated mentor and a clear path for growing their skills. This is where the majority of Title II funding is directed — because supporting teachers early in their careers has a lasting impact on students.
Teaching today's students
Today's students have grown up with technology and learn differently than previous generations. The Academy is regularly updated to reflect this, helping teachers connect with students in ways that work now.
Visible learning
Teaching strategies backed by research to have the greatest positive effect on how much students learn.
Science of learning
Understanding how the brain works — drawing from neuroscience, psychology, and cognitive research — so teachers can design lessons that stick.

Instructional aides are also included in the New Teacher Academy. They receive their own dedicated professional development days and sessions designed specifically for the work they do alongside teachers in the classroom.
National Board Certification (NBC)
National Board State and Local Incentive Program:
Maryland provides full fee support for National Board Certification (NBC) for Maryland public school teachers who meet certain eligibility requirements (see below). Teachers who are interested in pursuing NBC should contact Chris Cassell [email protected]), ACPS National Board Coordinator, or Ethan Devore ([email protected]), ACPS National Board Facilitator.
