Located in western Maryland, where Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia meet, Allegany County is home to about 73,700 people and a school system that's designed with students in mind.

Our Schools at a Glance
We operate twenty-two schools with experienced teachers and staff:
- 14 elementary schools where young learners get their start
- 4 middle schools that help students grow and discover their strengths
- 3 high schools that prepare students for college, careers, and beyond
- 1 technical center where hands-on learning meets real-world skills
- 1 alternative program offering different pathways to success
How Our School System Works
Students progress through what we call "feeder systems"—basically, your elementary school determines which middle school you'll attend, which leads to one of our three high schools:
- Allegany High School draws students from West Side, Cash Valley, Parkside, and Cresaptown Elementary, plus Braddock Middle
- Fort Hill High School serves students from Northeast, South Penn, Flintstone, Bel Air, and John Humbird Elementary, plus Washington Middle
- Mountain Ridge High School brings together students from George's Creek, Westernport, Beall, Frost, and Mt. Savage Elementary, plus Mt. Savage Middle and Westmar Middle.

Something Special: CCTE
Our Center for Career and Technical Education gives juniors and seniors the chance to explore seventeen different career paths, from healthcare to welding to digital design—while still staying connected to their home school. You can learn job-ready skills, be part of the Career Center family, and still play for your school's team and go to prom.
It Takes a Team
Great schools don't happen by accident. Our Board of Education partners with families, PTAs, PTOs, and the Allegany County Parent Advisory Council. We know when families and schools work together, students succeed.
Always Getting Better
We're constantly improving how we teach and what we teach. Through our Blueprint, personalized school improvement strategies, ongoing teacher training, and smart use of student data, we're making sure our students are ready for whatever comes next—whether that's college, a career, or something they haven't even dreamed of yet.
