Operations
The Operations Department provides the services, materials, and supplies necessary to support the daily operations of all school system facilities. The department oversees delivery services, manages custodial staff and custodial services, and ensures that schools have the supplies and materials needed to maintain safe, clean, and orderly learning environments. It also works collaboratively with schools to ensure compliance with Maryland's Pesticide Management requirements.
In addition, the Operations Department coordinates the procurement of new and replacement furniture and maintenance equipment. The department is responsible for routine grounds maintenance, including grass mowing and snow removal, to ensure school properties remain safe and well maintained throughout the year.
The Operations Department also manages the disposal and sale of surplus equipment and supplies through GovDeals and coordinates the school system's recycling initiatives, including the collection and recycling of electronics, cardboard, and paper.

Integrated Pest Management
The Allegany County Board of Education has adopted an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program to control structural and landscape pests in school buildings and on school grounds. IPM emphasizes prevention and uses a variety of environmentally responsible methods to manage pests while minimizing the use of pesticides. Pesticides are used only when necessary and as a last resort.
The designated IPM contact maintains the product labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all approved pesticides and bait stations used by the school system. These records are available for review at the school by parents, guardians, students, and staff, and additional information is available upon request.
If an unexpected pest problem requires the use of a pesticide not on the approved list, all required notification and recordkeeping procedures will be followed. Parents, guardians, and staff at middle and secondary schools may request advance notification of pesticide applications by submitting a written request to the school principal. Elementary schools provide advance notification as required by Maryland law.
